Steady conditions that object remains in
States are abstractions of attributes, links & associations
Two types of state machines
Closed loop : Run forever, with probably an idle state
Open loop: Has definite start and terminate states
An event causes a transition from one state to another
Operations are tied to states (activities), events (actions)
Passive objects simply return a value
Active objects propagate messages to other objects
