  • States are abstractions of attributes, links & associations
  • Two types of state machines
  • Closed loop : Run forever, with probably an idle state
  • Open loop: Has definite start and terminate states
  • An event causes a transition from one state to another
  • Operations are tied to states (activities), events (actions)
  • Passive objects simply return a value
  • Active objects propagate messages to other objects
